StreetGames have announced that Sport England have confirmed an award of £3.5m for their work in 2017-18. This investment in Doorstep Sport and young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds builds upon the great success of the Doorstep Sport Club Programme over the past 4 years, the largest ever investment in sport for disadvantaged youth.

The award will enable StreetGames to provide a range of support to members of the StreetGames network. Their offer will include specialist support to assist with sustaining provision for disadvantaged young people in local communities, resources for increasing the numbers who continue to play regularly and to support those who move on from doorstep sport to continue their sporting habit elsewhere.

Although they will not have the same level of funding to distribute as in previous years, there will be some funding available to;

  • Sustain Doorstep Sport Clubs with strong attendance where there is a clear risk of them coming to an end
  • Develop approaches to supporting young people to make the transition into mainstream sport through an extension of our CLUB1 programme
  • Maintain and develop work with disadvantaged girls and young women
  • Understand the factors that impact on the participation patterns of disadvantaged young people

This funding will be enhanced with specialist support at a local level focussed upon:

  • Sustainability including  fundraising advice and support with commissions and bid production
  • Understanding participants and their habits to strengthen sporting resilience and increase the numbers of inactive young people taking part in sport and physical activity
  • Developing the local doorstep sport workforce through training and skill sharing

More information will be released by them over the next few weeks. To visit their website click here; http://www.streetgames.org/our-work/doorstep-sport-clubs
