The Health Secretary, Andrew Langsley, has recently published the Government’s new Public Health Outcomes Framework for England. This sets out their desired outcomes for public health and how these will be measured.

There are two high-level outcomes to be achieved across the public health system. These are:

  • Increased healthy life expectancy
  • Reduced differences in life expectancy and healthy life expectancy between communities

The Government has also set out a new national ambition for physical activity.

This aims to have a year on year increase in the number of adults doing 150 minutes of physical activity per week; and a year on year decrease in those who are inactive.

This will be measured through Sport England’s Active People Survey.
