One of the key priorities of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is to ensure that every young person in England has someone to talk to, something to do, and somewhere to go. In order to achieve this, the Government has announced three new funding programmes:

  • The Adventures Away from Home Fund that’ll allow up to 7,500 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to go on adventurous trips. The fund will be open later this autumn and it’ll provide a further £19m for local youth organisations (in eligible locations).
  • New guidance to local authorities on providing young people with the services and activities they need in their local area, and £320,000 of core funding for regional youth work units. Plus £800,000 is also being made available to youth organisations offering 500 free youth work qualifications.
  • To help young people into employment or training, or to stay in education, a range of new programmes with £15 million of dormant assets allocated to give 5,000 young people access to coaching and careers counselling, through Youth Futures Foundation, and a three-year Youth Endowment Fund Summer Jobs Programme that’ll see 2,600 six-week employment placements for those at risk of involvement with crime.
