The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation

The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation is a long-established independent grant-making charity. Unlike many Foundations and Trusts, it solely supports capital projects, such as new builds, refurbishments, equipment and specialised transport, distributing around £2.5 million a year throughout the charity sector.Only supporting organisations that are Registered Charities, they offer three different tiers of grants:

  • Small- up to and including £5,000
  • Medium- £5,001 to £25,000
  • Large- over £25,000

The grants are divided into 9 categories which are: Community, Education, Arts, Health, Social Welfare, Amateur Sport, Emergency and Armed forces, Environment and Animal Welfare

Most applications are in the ‘small category’ and make up to 80% of the grants offered in the previous year.

Applications can be submitted any time however there are no formal application forms and you can make a request for a grant in the form of a letter by post to the Director, with the website offering some guidelines notes and advice.
