Sport England have launched their new Strategy ‘Uniting the Movement.’ To view an overview of this, see their launch You Tube video below.
Building on the work that they, and many others, have already begun, they will work over the next decade on five big issues as follows:
- Recover and reinvent: Recovering from the biggest crisis in a generation and reinventing as a vibrant, relevant and sustainable network of organisations providing sport and physical activity opportunities that meet the needs of different people; https://www.sportengland.org/why-were-here/uniting-the-movement/what-well-do/recover-and-reinvent
- Connecting communities: Focusing on sport and physical activity’s ability to make better places to live and bring people together; https://www.sportengland.org/why-were-here/uniting-the-movement/what-well-do/connecting-communities
- Positive experiences for children and young people: Unrelenting focus on positive experiences for all children and young people as the foundations for a long and healthy life; https://www.sportengland.org/why-were-here/uniting-the-movement/what-well-do/positive-experiences-children-and-young-people
- Connecting with health and wellbeing: Strengthening the connections between sport, physical activity, health and wellbeing, so more people can feel the benefits of, and advocate for, an active life; https://www.sportengland.org/why-were-here/uniting-the-movement/what-well-do/connecting-health-and-wellbeing
- Active environments: Creating and protecting the places and spaces that make it easier for people to be active; https://www.sportengland.org/why-were-here/uniting-the-movement/what-well-do/active-environments
In addition to the above, as well as announcing their new 10-year vision, they are also making £50 million available to support this network in 2021 – this is in addition to the £220m of National Lottery and Exchequer funding they’ve already invested in responding to the pandemic since last March.
More work will be done in the coming weeks and months to understand where to best target this additional funding to ensure as many clubs, organisations and people who help keep the nation active are helped – with a particular emphasis on supporting children and young people to get back involved in sport and activities with confidence.
