Project Description

Tickhill Cricket Club: New Changing Room Facility

Tickhill Cricket Club is a thriving sports club, established over 150 years ago. They were in desperate need of new changing rooms as they didn’t have suitable changing facilities. They wished to build. Because of this they needed new changing rooms which after undertaking drawings and getting quotes would cost in excess of £150k

Why was it needed?

  1. The Club was in desperate need of new changing rooms for the following reasons;
  2. They had no female changing
  3. They had no umpires changing room
  4. They had no disabled facilities for their disabled cricket members
  5. The current men’s changing facilities were dire, and not fit for purpose.

What difference would it make?

If successful, the new changing rooms would;

  1. Make the club more appealing and welcoming venue for existing and new members, players and spectators
  2. Increase Junior usage
  3. Enable the club to develop girls cricket
  4. Provide a venue for other sports clubs to use as a changing facility
  5. Provide a facility that the local community could use

How did they make it happen?

Via a referral through the Yorkshire Cricket Development Manager, Tickhill Cricket Club contacted Funding 4 Sport to discuss the build and possible funding sources. As this was a larger build we advised the club on a number of funding sources that included; WREN Landfill Funding, Sport England’s Inspired Facilities and ECB (grants and loans).

After discussing this further and working alongside the Yorkshire Cricket Board the club decided to work with the Yorkshire Cricket Board on accessing an ECB grant and loan, and asked Funding 4 Sport to write two applications on a ‘No Win, No Fee’ basis to WREN and Inspired Facilities. Through the two funding streams we were successful in getting them just under £100k of funding which alongside funding from the ECB the club received all the funding they required to build this. The club are now in the process of building the new changing rooms which are due for completion later this year.

On receipt of this funding Paul Foster from the club said; “This is a major achievement for the club, that will provide us with a facility that is not only fit for purpose for the club, but other sports clubs and community members that wish to use the club. The club is very grateful to those that funded the club and we couldn’t have done this without help from the ECB, Yorkshire Cricket Board and Funding 4 Sport.”

In reference to Funding 4 Sport specifically, Paul said “we would like to thank Funding 4 Sport for their knowledge, expertise and patience in writing two excellent applications that helped us get the funding we so desperately needed. As a club we would definitely recommend Funding 4 Sport and their services to other clubs and organisations considering similar capital developments such as ourselves.’
